The 18-Day Accelerated EMT Program at ARES is an intensive, hands-on training course designed to prepare students quickly and thoroughly for a career in Emergency Medical Services. This fast-paced program is ideal for individuals seeking a challenging and rewarding pathway to becoming an EMT in a condensed timeframe, without sacrificing the quality and depth of education.

Program Structure:

  • Days 1-14: Classroom Instruction & Skills Labs
During the first 14 days, students will engage in comprehensive classroom lectures, interactive labs, and real-world scenario-based training. Each day consists of 8 hours of lecture paired with 2 hours of skills labs, providing a balanced approach that builds both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

    Topics include:

    • EMS Foundations: An introduction to the EMS system, legal responsibilities, stress management, and development through the lifespan.
    • Patient Assessment & Airway Management: Techniques and skills essential for assessing and managing patients in emergency settings.
    • Trauma Care: Focused instruction on handling traumatic injuries, including head, spinal, chest, and musculoskeletal injuries.
    • Medical Emergencies: Coverage of various medical situations EMTs may encounter, such as respiratory, cardiac, neurologic, and endocrine emergencies.
    • Specialized Populations: Training on care for specific groups, such as pediatric and geriatric patients, and in unique scenarios like childbirth.

Each module concludes with focused skills labs to reinforce learning through practice under real-time conditions.

  • Days 15-18: Clinical Rotations
The final phase of the program includes four full days of clinical rotations on ambulances or other clinical settings. These rotations allow students to apply their training in the field, working directly with patients under the supervision of experienced EMTs and paramedics.

Program Highlights:

  • Condensed Timeline: Complete your EMT training in just 18 days.
  • Hands-On Experience: Daily skills labs and four days of clinical rotations provide immersive, practical learning opportunities.
  • Inter-Agency Training: Scenarios may include collaboration with fire, police, and EMS personnel to help students gain familiarity with multi-agency coordination.

This accelerated program requires commitment and readiness to learn in an intensive environment. Graduates will be fully prepared to take their EMT certification exams and begin their careers with a strong foundation in emergency medical care.

AHA STUDENT MANUAL AND TEXTBOOK POLICY

Each student must have the current, appropriate course textbook of their own readily available for use before, during, and after the course.

Textbooks are designed for individual use and are an integral part of the student’s education. Students may reuse their textbooks during renewals or updates UNTIL NEW SCIENCE GUIDELINES ARE PUBLISHED. (i.e. 2020 AHA Update)

The American Heart Association (AHA) designs their resuscitation courses using the most current educational design concepts. In order to maximize the students’ learning potential and keep course length manageable, the AHA have designed the classroom courses with the intent that students will have the opportunity to study the course materials outside of the class itself. It is necessary that students have access to student manuals before, during, and after each course, especially if the students are less familiar with the skills.

ARES BOOK POLICY

NO BOOKS may be returned or refunded for any reason. Books may not be issued during the course and then returned for a refund; this includes if it has been unopened. Books may also not be shared during the course; this is against American Heart Association rules and guidelines. Per AHA Rules, each student must have their own current book in order to attend an AHA course.
